Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe the earliest school years shape how children see themselves forever. In first grade, students are learning to read, write, and discover their voice. Being part of the moment a child realizes, “I can do this!” is powerful. I wanted to be the adult who helps children feel capable, curious, and confident in who they are!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable moments is watching a student read their first book independently. The pride on their face when they realize they can do it is unforgettable. In first grade, those small breakthroughs happen every day, and being there for those moments, when confidence replaces doubt, is what makes teaching so meaningful.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would invest the funds into creating a classroom that removes barriers to learning. This includes sensory-friendly spaces, literacy materials for diverse learners, and hands-on resources that help students build foundational reading and math skills. I would also expand culturally responsive materials so my students can see themselves reflected in what they read and learn every day
