Learning feels amazing. Teaching allows me to share this feeling with children and to be a positive influence in their lives.

When discussing uncertainty about my future plans when I was hanging out with my cousins, the idea of teaching was brought up. I remembered the feeling I had when teaching about the circle of life as a camp counselor. I changed my major the next day. Never felt so certain about anything else in my life before that moment.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceI didn’t attend graduation for many years when I first started teaching. At that time I still thought I taught them biology chemistry and physics. Over time students started asking me to come so I thought I could check it out. A good part of the valedictorian’s speech was about me and had nothing to do with science but how I made him feel. My eyes were open to the hidden lessons that I didn’t realize I was providing. I now more deliberately use science as a vehicle for providing life skills.
What would you do with the $25,000?I have three children who are all currently in high school. All three of them are interested in careers in health care. My oldest is likely heading to dental school. My middle child wants to help people with their mental health. My youngest is thinking about nursing. After paying off some debt I will divide the rest into their savings for school.
