I learn something new everyday from my students who are struggling to those who sit at the top of the academic ladder. It is refreshing❤️

Tell us why you became a teacher I became a teacher because when I thought that poverty would hinder my future, a teacher pointed out that I had talents, skills, and a niche for writing. That inspired me to pursue teaching, and gave me the push to help struggling caterpillar students transition to beautiful scholarly butterflies.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceThis experience occurred in South Bronx at a school that is economically and educationally challenging. It was an 8th grade class with many nonreaders attempting to read the text, "To Kill A Mockingbird.” As I read with them, I saw their eyes light up as they raised their hands asking questions about justice. In that moment, they became up-standers who idolized Atticus. Parents inquired about what I had done to get their children reading at home. This impactful memory still warms my heart.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would start a cooking/knitting after school or lunch club for over-aged students who are technically-oriented. I would buy resources, engage other teachers, and parents to assist with the implementation. This would help to build capacity and maintain the club as one of my legacy for MS 390.
