Tell us why you became a teacher

Growing up I was lucky to have amazing teachers who had a major impact on me. They instilled a love of reading and creative writing. They taught me to nurture curiosity with research. They also taught me to work hard and play hard. They taught me to believe in myself when I didn’t. I wanted to be there for young people just like my teachers were there for me.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was my first year teaching comedy writing to students who had never seen stand-up comedy before. When the class came to an end students who had initially been scared to talk in front of people became confident in themselves. They were able to fully express themselves and make a room laugh by simply being their true self and sharing their life experiences.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would get an advanced degree in education or educational leadership with $25,000.
