Teaching found me because I have always enjoyed helping others understand difficult concepts. I believe everyone can learn with the right support and explanations. My experiences with the Boys and Girls Club and running a science program in undergrad helped me realize my passion for education. Although becoming an astronaut remains my dream, teaching has given me a deeper appreciation for space science and continues to shape my path.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceOne of my most memorable teaching experiences was leading science labs for the "In Search of Genius" program in Chicago Public Schools, working with 3rd-6th graders. The excitement and curiosity of the students were contagious, inspiring me to learn more so I could keep them engaged. I often think of the high fives and smiles on their faces, which reminded me of my own childhood enthusiasm for science. It was a truly rewarding experience that reinforced my passion for teaching.
What would you do with the $25,000?If I were to win $25,000, I would use the money as a down payment on a home in the San Francisco Bay Area. Homeownership would help provide long-term stability, allowing me to become more deeply rooted in the community. This would enable me to stay in the classroom without the financial pressure of needing to find an additional job to support the high cost of living in the area. Owning a home would not only give me security but also allow me to continue contributing to the educational community.
