Connect Tell us why you became a teacher

To explain why I became a teacher is really simple. I had an amazing one who changed my outlook on school. In 7th grade I had a history teacher named Mr. Yarbrough. He single handedly made me love not only history, but coming to school in general. Learning new things has always been something exciting for me so why not share that love with others. I worked in teaching younger kids at Sunday church services throughout high school and loved it so much. It was only fitting I went into the career.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching memory came from this last school year. I taught a really amazing group of 5th graders last year. When they moved into middle school I was so sad, but so proud of their accomplishment. Little did I know I made such an impact that they are still emailing me about their grades and social life and well being. Even emailing when they just need someone to talk to. I'm so grateful to be a person they can still call on when they need someone.

What would you do with the $25,000?

What does any teacher with a family want? It's simple for me, the only thing I want is to be able to buy a home. While this doesn't get me a home, it's a great down-payment and for that I would be eternally greatful. I want a place to call home with my own family and show my kids what happens when you work hard for something.
