Tell us why you became a teacher

Teaching came to me. I didn't know I needed it until I was allowed to impact, encourage, and make a difference to a set of scholars who allowed me to be in their space and help guide them to be amazing human beings moving forward. Teaching is not a job for me it is my happy place. I get joy every day seeing my scholars light up and interact with one another. The classroom brings a sense of peace to my scholars and I. We have fun. We do math. We encourage each other. Teaching is home. My passion

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My 3rd year of teaching. I had the chance to gown 15 scholars who picked me as their teacher, which impacted them throughout their time at the school. I also had the privilege to give the commencement speech during graduation. It is so memorable because when you are truly doing what you love sometimes people are watching and that year was the year I saw the hard work my scholars and I did. To be inspiring to and picked my 3rd year of teaching to speak at graduation for families and graduates.

What would you do with the $25,000?

So I recently just started my 4th year of teaching and in October very out of the blue, I had to have 3 emergency brain surgeries. The only thing I was thinking when I was in the hospital was "I want to get back to my scholars". Some of the money would go to the medical expenses that I under went. I honestly want to celebrate my 200+ scholars for holding me down until I returned to see their smiling faces and to know they were as joyous to see me as I was to see them. I want give back to them.
