I love teaching because I love learning. I want to make a difference in the lives of my HS students but they also make a difference in mine.

Tell us why you became a teacher

Teaching is my lifelong dream and passion. As a child, I played “school”. In high school, I became a tutor and recognized how important learning is and how rewarding it feels to deliver instruction that is clear and explicit. I felt great satisfaction helping others. I continued to tutor throughout college and immediately started teaching at my student teaching placement. I connect with my students and make learning fun. I inspire over 100 students a year by being authentically me!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Every year of teaching is a blessing. This year, I had the opportunity to plan my school’s Black History Month assembly. It was marvelous to collaborate with my colleagues and highlight the talent of my students while sharing significant American History. Then, I was invited to replicate the performance at the middle school within my district (my former workplace). It was a huge success and display of excellence and giving back. I’ve since been invited to collaborate with elementary schools!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I’d use the $25K to support my ambitious education goals. I'd also take the time to be a blessing to my family and loved ones.
