Teaching is the most creative, fulfilling, exciting, and challenging profession- that has transformed my life.

Teaching found me in the San Bernardino Mountains. I was disenchanted with corporate life and truly needed a place to stay, food, and some income. I had a college degree so I applied to teach at the 5th grade outdoor science school. I found myself with 15 girls ages 10-11 and a small cabin that also housed mice! We lived, learned, served, played, and had new, fun, and challenging experiences each day! I had never worked so hard and so long, yet I was incredibly happy!
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable teaching experience in the last 25 years is difficult to pick, because there are many! One of the most memorable is when I traveled to Rwanda to help support the building, and development of an early childhood education program. I was enamored with the children’s joy to learn English, new songs, and games within such poverty. The young children ages 4-7 walked over 5 miles each day just to attend the school!
What would you do with the $25,000?If I was awarded this generous amount of money I would like to purchase a second van for my after school education adventure camp. I love taking kids on adventures and the money would support the purchase of a reliable and safe van. I would also love to travel to visit other countries and cultures to bring their color, art, culture and stories to my own class.
