My first black male teacher in 2nd grade inspired me to become a teacher. His example taught me that accountability, hard work, and a passion for lifelong learning can transform lives. I saw my potential as a leader through his guidance, which ignited my desire to empower youth. I strive daily to honor his legacy by inspiring students to embrace excellence and pursue learning.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

During a financial literacy event my students hosted last year, I witnessed one of my most memorable teaching moments. They welcomed 300 attendees with genuine warmth, and even typically shy students took the lead, interviewing vendors about their business choices and inspirations. Their teamwork during table presentations showcased their leadership and readiness to make a real impact.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I'd expand our Financially Lit program by organizing immersive field trips where students experience real-world financial literacy in action. I’d also create branded merchandise to generate additional funds for community events—like our Mother's Day Market and Family Nights—that raise financial literacy awareness and empower families to make smarter financial decisions.
