I became a teacher because I always looked up to my teachers growing up. All throughout my childhood I thought my teachers were the best people in the world. I loved learning and I thought that having a teacher help me accomplish something was the greatest thing in the world. I was so inspired that when I was deciding what to go to college for I knew it had to be teaching. In high school my choir teacher told me I would be an amazing music teacher and I carried those words with me until even now

When I had my first student come to me and say “Ms. Roy, I want to be a famous singer because of you” was a very important moment for me in my career as a teacher. I knew from that moment that I was doing the right job for me. Having a student tell me that I have impacted them enough to want to pursue music meant a lot. This was especially meaningful because I have always wanted to be the teacher for my students that I had growing up. I wanted to encourage and motive students the same way I felt

I would pay off all of my student loans. I am going back to school now and receiving my masters degree in special education. I want to be able to support my students in music to the best of my ability. I felt going into special education would allow me to connect and include all students in my room even more than I am now. Getting educated and learning more about how to be the best teacher I can be is so important to me.
