I never imagined becoming a teacher. Growing up, my teachers were more than educators—they were heroes, especially during my parents’ divorce and school changes. Just seeing them in the halls gave me comfort. In college, I started tutoring athletes, and during COVID, I took a teaching job out of necessity. But now, I realize I didn’t just need a job—I needed life to show me my purpose and that was being a teacher.

There are so many to choose from, yet one of my most memorable experiences happened recently with a student who hadn’t been themselves—head down, responding aggressively. As usual, I tried to include them, but at first, it was like pulling teeth. Then, something clicked. They not only re-engaged but became the best version of themselves. That day, they didn’t just excel in the material—they left class knowing they could achieve anything they set their mind to.

I’m currently working on a project to provide students with free resources to continue their education in Spanish and English. As a teacher still paying off my own student debt, this money would help ease that burden while allowing me to invest in my project so more students can access these resources for free. Education is a human right, and I want every student—regardless of their circumstances—to have the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
