Tell us why you became a teacher

In S. Korea, my neighbors would ask me to babysit their children. At 7, I felt I could handle it since I loved connecting with each child and developing a relevant relationship. My father enrolled me in a private teachers prep. middle school where language, Math and Art, Music, Ph. Ed. Science, Home Economics were taught. I was not an 'A' student, yet my artistic talent was respected. I wanted to become an educator so I can advocate for all learners; I have been an IB PYP Coach for 3 years.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I have been creating transdisciplinary curriculum and lessons which can lead to a fun and memorable learning time. I taught 'Stone Soup' lesson during Thanksgiving season. We read the book, analyzed the Story Elements, tapped into measurement (Math), Status of Matters (Science), sing, and make the Stone Soup starting with 3 Stones! The students did Procedural Writing including lesson/s from the Stone Soup. In IB PYP it would be the Communication and Thinking Skills we can focus on!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I have several plans. 1. I would like to write a book, a children's book or a memoir to share faith, hope and love with SIFE students & parents, Single moms & dads, student with disability, who found America as their new home here in U.S. 2. Music and Art can 'hook' the students. I would like to write math & science songs with musical composer friends, teachers, parents, and students. I invite all to put down their cell phones and create an 'authentic' Learning Community!
