Tell us why you became a teacher

I have been teaching school ever since I can remember. My parents made me a little room with desks, chalkboard, and my brother, sister, cousins, and friends were my students. They even did homework! :) I love to decorate and make the environment fun, inviting, and learning exciting! I love to work with struggling students and see the light bulbs turn on their eyes when they catch on to a concept and the doors it opens up for them. I love learning and teaching about different cultures.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I had a boy that could only read 3 words per minute in 2nd grade. I had him in 2nd and 3rd and by the end of 3rd grade he was reading above grade level, about 110 words per minute. That was accomplished in an online school environment! I have loved working with ESL kids and seeing the growth in their language and also sharing that language with the class. I love teaching Spanish and connecting kids as well as connecting to parents.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Pay off the debt I have incurred for my classroom this year. I was online and am pretty much starting over. I'd love to buy more STEM items for my class/school, such as 3D printers, ChompStomps, Robots, Legos, and more hands on activities!
