Teaching CTE in the same school district that supported my trade is rewarding because it allows me to give back to my community by mentoring and providing real-world skills to students like me. The diversity and creativity of my students make each day exciting. They offer resilience and fresh perspectives that inspire me. Watching them earn certifications, land internships, or start tech careers is a full-circle moment and incredibly fulfilling.

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was when a struggling student discovered his passion for technology. He started the year disengaged, but after working on a hands-on computer repair project, something clicked. He asked for extra challenges and earned three industry certifications. Seeing his confidence grow and watching him land a full ride to his university of choice to study technology reminded me why I teach—to help students find their strengths and open doors to their future.

I’d invest it in expanding hands-on learning opportunities for my students. This could include upgrading classroom technology by creating a maker space for real-world projects. I’d also love to have field trips to tech companies to give students exposure to the industry. I give students and my co-advisor the biggest end-of-the-year celebration. I’d invest in myself by paying down student loans and PD to stay current in my field and bring fresh ideas to the classroom.
