Tell us why you became a teacher

My Dad taught for 30 years. His impact on my life and the lives of generations in our small, rural town inspired me. By 8th grade, I knew teaching was my calling. Teachers like Ray Cassavaugh, Jackie Kalinowski, and Meredith Treska changed my life.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Teaching is about providing mirrors, windows, and doors for students. On top of teaching ELA, I started the 8th grade class trip to Washington, D.C. This trip was an attempt to bring classroom learning to life. To date over 3,000 students have been to the Nation’s Capitol. On one trip, I connected with a former student and traveler who was attending Georgetown after seeing it with me as an 8th grader. Mission accomplished!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use a portion of the $25,000 to provide scholarships for students to travel on our class trips free of charge. The rest I would use to travel with my family. I would love to continue to learn!
