Tell us why you became a teacher

I have always wanted to be a teacher since I was a little girl. The dream became bigger as I continued to grow up and fell in love with serving others. I enjoyed helping whenever I could, and seeing others thrive. As I got closer to accomplishing this dream, I began working with children more, and it opened my eyes to see why I truly wanted to become a teacher - being able to help teach our next generation of careers and watch that light bulb go off every time kids begin to understand new ideas.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience is overcoming the challenges of being a first year teacher. Going into my first year of teaching, I felt prepared for the lesson plans, grading, and the responsibilities of being a teacher. I didn’t account for the students who misbehaved in certain ways and overstaying at work due to long to-do lists. To overcome these challenges, I was blessed to have a team and a principal who cares for me, and I learned to be resilient in the midst of adversity.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I were to be gifted the $25,000, I would love to first apply that towards a donation that helps provide for future teachers. This would be to help provide some scholarship money to some who need it for college. I would love to apply some of it to other charities that I support as well. The rest of it, I would love to use for my own students, which will help them succeed and thrive in their education. This money will be used for majority of educational purposes.
