Teaching challenges my knowledge and my patience daily; however, I learn so much from my students and I enjoy seeing their ideas materialize

Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to counteract the negative experiences I had as a student. Fortunately, I had a majority of wonderful and inspirational educators; however, I wanted to make sure that my students did not have to deal with inadequate educators who were not interested in helping them grow as humans. Teaching art is an awesome way to earn a living!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable experience happened recently. Within the past few years, I have had so many talented students. One of my students was set up to go to Notre Dame and major in math. She emailed me over the summer and let me know that after having art with me and earning a 5 on her AP Drawing portfolio, she decided to minor in art too! This made my heart so happy and reminds me why I chose to do this job in the first place.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Honestly, I would take my family to Disney World. My family has had to sacrifice time with me in order for me to plan, grade, coordinate club activities, etc. and they deserve to have some quality time with their wife and Mom after all of the energy that I have expelled for my career over the past 18 years.
