Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher in 2020. I did a complete career pivot from Hospital Chaplaincy to Education. I was looking for something more to the lessons learned and points of life. I left Chaplaincy one month before the pandemic began. I worked at a properly staffed hospital. I then entered education as many were leaving the field and many medical protocols were newly being introduced to the early childhood space.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I have countless memorable experiences. My joy is bringing education to life and real/imaginative life to education. Today, students went around the room doing Mayan math problems with each other after being taught how the Mayan math system developed. We have interactive phonics lessons based on the Science of Reading, Math Centers that are game based teaching teamwork and strategy, and community learning each moment of the day.

What would you do with the $25,000?

A lot! I have an interest in design and know how that affects engagement, safety, and overall learning. I would put a portion of the money toward further redesigning and restructuring the learning space of my classroom. I would put a portion into savings for future opportunities of professional development, and a portion toward enjoying the much needed trip to Hawaii. :)
