Tell us why you became a teacher

Aristotle once said that 'educating the mind, without educating the heart, is no education at all', unfortunately we live in a world where the darkness is becoming bigger and wider. I became a teacher to help combat this darkness, to help students think for themselves and analyze the world around them. To see the events of today and have them question 'why?' To be a voice for students who are often left voiceless and to help regain that ability to find their voice and let the world know it.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of the many memorable moments I have had in my nine year teaching career so far, is when my students were selected to participate in Hamilton on Broadway. Out of 100's of students across NYC, my students work was selected to perform on the stage in front of 100's of other students. Using their creative genius, my students wrote a musical piece detailing their views on the Constitutional Convention and the importance that legacy plays in our every day lives.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use it buy better quality supplies for my students, to allow them to have access to educational programs and devices that they do not have at home. Working at a Title 1 school means that a lot of these students come from low-income areas and do not have opportunities that other students in the country do. I would make sure they have those opportunities. I would also help my family who has suffered medical issues for the last 6 six years.
