Tell us why you became a teacher

I want every student to feel loved and safe, as meeting this basic need lays the foundation for a genuine love of learning. When students know they’re supported and valued, it frees them to take risks, ask questions, and engage deeply with the material. They’re more likely to develop curiosity and confidence, not just in the classroom but in life.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable experience was not in the classroom, but in the stairwell, where that positive connection from the classroom had been made and the trust and love had been established. I encountered one of my students, that was unknown to me at the time on her way to overdose on pills. I could tell she was distraught, and I put everything on hold and sat with her. I made sure she received the appropriate help, and months later she returned to class and told me she was alive because of me.

What would you do with the $25,000?

This is such an exciting question! I want to contribute to multiple areas......I believe in my family's future. As a single mom , I believe in investing in my children's future education. I want to contribute to their life goals and to make memories. I also want to set some money aside to go towards educational reform in our state, update my classroom with supplies including Social and Emotional tools, and further my own education.
