I became a teacher because I have a deep passion for working with children and providing them with the educational tools they need to succeed and become future leaders who can change the world. I am especially dedicated to empowering students with special needs by equipping them with the skills to become self-advocates, live independently, and pursue meaningful employment opportunities in society.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceOne of my proudest moments as an educator was being appointed by the Governor to serve on the Louisiana Developmental Disabilities Council, advocating for exceptional learners. I have received grants to provide coats for students, create a classroom library, offer snacks so no child learns hungry, and bring in artists for lessons. Seeing my students’ artwork featured in a public art show was a joyful celebration of their creativity and growth.
What would you do with the $25,000?Since the passing of our parents, I have taken on the role of devoted caregiver for my brother with special needs. One of my biggest wishes is to take him on a family vacation to Walt Disney World. He is a huge fan of Disney characters, and I know experiencing the magic of Disney together would bring him so much joy and create unforgettable memories for us both.
