I became a teacher because I struggled as a student and often felt unseen. In high school, a teacher changed my life by believing in me when I didn’t believe in myself. They saw my academic potential and, more importantly, my ability to lead. That encouragement helped me realize what I was capable of achieving. It only took one person to make a lasting difference in my life, and I knew I wanted to be that person for others—to inspire, uplift, and help students see their own potential.

One of my most memorable teaching moments was having a 5th/6th grade combo class. It was the most challenging yet rewarding experience of my career. These students looped with me the following year, allowing us to build deep connections. The personal and professional growth I experienced during this time was transformative. Those relationships remain dear to my heart, and seeing former students return to visit and share their successes reminds me of the lasting impact we’ve had on each other.

If I were awarded $25,000, I would use it to pay off student loans, easing a financial burden and allowing me to focus fully on teaching. With this freedom, I will be able to spend more time with family. There are so many wonderful things that money can buy, but knowing that we can have some stress taken off our plates during this time would be immeasurable.
