Tell us why you became a teacher

I have always known that I wanted to make a difference and give back to my community. Although I considered becoming a firefighter or police officer, I realized the challenges and dangers in those careers weren't for me. Then it hit me: teachers have the same power to shape the future by inspiring and guiding tomorrow's leaders. As a teacher, I get to share my love of learning, help them to reach their full potential, and build lasting relationships with "My Kids".

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

The most memorable moments as a teacher are when "My Kids" come back to share their lives since leaving my class. It is sharing in their successes that gives purpose and meaning to my work. It gives me such a thrill that even the more difficult students over the years come back and say they're doing well. It's a great reminder of where I make the difference and why I do this.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Our school participates in the Dancing Classrooms program, a powerful SEL initiative that helps students build character and learn positive interactions. I’d like to use a portion of the funds to ensure this program continues, as it plays a crucial role in our students' growth. The financial support would greatly assist with our household expenses.
