I became a teacher because of the abuse I faced as a child and my desire to give kids the opportunity to feel safe, valued, and empowered in ways I didn’t. I wanted to be the kind of adult who supports, encourages, and believes in them—someone who helps them see their worth and potential no matter what challenges they’re facing.

There are so many to choose from. One favorite memory was when my students created a water filter for the UA STEM Showcase and were recognized by a filtration company. I also loved our first Future City Competition, helping the students build, brainstorm, and grow in confidence as they presented was unforgettable. We even placed our first year!! Finally, on the last day, we end with a classroom dance party. It’s a tradition that brings us joy and creates positive core memory of my classroom.

If I were awarded $25,000, I would invest in resources to transform my classroom into a more inclusive and innovative space. First, I would purchase a 3D printer to teach my students more about engineering, design, and problem-solving through hands-on learning experiences. Additionally, I would acquire specialized tools to support my English Language Learners and students with disabilities, such as interactive translation devices, speech-to-text software, and sensory-friendly seating.
