I believe teaching is a proclamation through personality and often repeat the phrase to those I come in contact with. Teaching is not just a job.Teaching is a calling, my calling. That’s why I became a Teacher. I have been in education since 2012 and feel as though I have not worked a day yet. In my opinion, this profession is about what you can do for people around you and not about the money, personal accolades or moving up in the ranks.

Tia Whitfield, I had taught since 6th grade has always wanted to become an FBI agent. Knowing that the city of Houston would be the best place for her to get a good education as well as experience with law enforcement, I worked hard helping her to get a full ride to Texas Southern University. While at TSU, we were able to get her into the policing program that has led her in line to become a FBI Agent. Now she’s living her dream. All teaching moments are for the students not the teacher.

With $25,000, I would invest in furthering my education, getting my Masters and attending workshops like Ron Clark Academy to stay current with teaching strategies. I’d also upgrade my classroom, creating a vibrant, creative space for my drumline students. This could include new Door for our larger instruments, soundproofing, comfortable seating, and dynamic visual elements to inspire their creativity and foster a collaborative learning environment.
