Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to be a safe, loving place for kids, as school is often the only place most feel secure. I want to create positive memories, opportunities, and relationships that make them feel valued. Teaching in Title 1 schools has shown me how deserving these kids are. I love making learning fun, hands-on, and engaging, especially for young learners. It’s all for the kids—to show them they are loved, capable, and can achieve anything they set their minds to!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was with a 2nd grade student who struggled to focus and came from a tough background. He lived with his grandma, and we formed a close bond. I showed him I cared, understood him, and accepted him. He invited me to his football game, and seeing his smile when I cheered for him was unforgettable. Watching him improve in reading and math was incredible—it was amazing to see him grow simply because someone believed in him.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I had $25,000, I would use it to provide resources for my class and my school, which is lacking in many areas. These kids deserve so much more, and science materials, SEL tools, and small group manipulatives would greatly enhance their learning. This money would go a long way in making the learning of my students more engaging and worth-while by providing better materials! Any extra money would be used toward buying a first home for my fiancé and I!
