Growing up I always imagined myself as a teacher, even at the young age of 6 years old.What really drove me to love school was my teacher, Mrs. Grady. I knew because of her, I’m not just teaching standards and curriculum- I’m being a role model and leader for my students. I’m giving them the confidence they need to be successful in life! So when I walked into my first year teaching those teachers crossed my mind- and the quote that so many say, “Students will never forget how you made them feel.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I will never forget all of the "light bulb" moments with my students, but this one stands out particularly! We were learning about rounding in third grade, and I had a student that just didn't get it. I tried everything but nothing clicked. I decided to make our lesson into a game of "Pokemon" and instantly this student got it and was so excited! I cheered them on and from then on they could round like no other! This is why pulling student interests into learning is SO important!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I had to update my response to this question- I would start by paying off my teacher student loans (I'm almost there!!). I would then love to help out my parents with medical bills after my dad’s tumor removal surgery. I would then love to incorporate engagement learning sessions from professional learning experts, including science of reading training, for our Title 1 school!
