Tell us why you became a teacher

I was always a dedicated student, striving for excellence in all academic areas, but nothing compared to my love for choir. During difficult times, singing became my refuge—a source of comfort, joy, and unwavering support. The sense of community and family in a choir is a unique bond that words cannot fully capture. When it came time to choose my path after high school, the decision was clear. I wanted to be a choir director, sharing that same love and connection with others.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

In 2019, my high school women’s choir performed Lineage by Andrea Ramsey, a powerful tribute to our grandmothers and the strength of the women who came before us. My girls had fallen in love with the piece 4 years earlier, but were not experienced enough to tackle the difficulty of the song. When they were finally ready, they didn’t just perform—they poured their hearts into it, earning the highest regional assessment scores in school history and creating a moment many of us will never forget.

What would you do with the $25,000?

My son, Oliver was born with pneumothorax, respiratory issues, and swallowing issues. These conditions require ongoing care including regular hospital visits, specialized studies, and therapy. The funds would allow us to focus on his recovery without the added stress of financial concerns, ensuring he has access to the best treatments available. I’d also use it to support any future medical needs as he grows and continues to make progress.
