Tell us why you became a teacher

As a child, reading and school in general, was not easy for me. In 5th grade I had two teachers that changed all of that. Mrs. Beringer helped me to realized that mistakes are ok, learning can be fun and helped me become a better learner. Both of my parents are teachers as well. My dad was my elementary PE teacher. He always made exercise accessible and fun for everyone. I loved that these teachers were able to make difficult things enjoyable and that is when I decided to make it my profession.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was the first day back in person after COVID. Returning to in-person teaching after two years away from kids was magical. The energy and excitement was palpable. Teachers and students were overjoyed to be back together. It was a happy, but emotional day. I realized that what makes teaching special is my time together with my students. The stories, sharing, day to day conversations and the feeling of a family in my class was all realized that day!

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000 I would take some of that to pay bills acquired from the pandemic. I would also put some of the money away for my two kids who are in high school and both planning to go to college. I would love to offer them the opportunity of a higher education, as my parents did for me.
