My students at the hospital school are resilient and inspiring. Every day I spend teaching my students is an honor.
Thank you for supporting Lauren Roberts in this year's competition. Your donations and participation will benefit The Planetary Society in their mission to advance space exploration, inspire discovery, and empower the next generation of innovators.
I became a teacher to advocate for social justice and empower every student to realize their potential. Witnessing the disparities in education fueled my passion to create an inclusive classroom where all voices are valued. I believe that each student possesses unique strengths, and my role is to nurture their confidence and resilience. Now that I teach in the hospital setting, I am advocate for their right to an education while healing, so that they may successfully return to their base school.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable moment teaching experience was from my first year. I taught after-school tutoring. My students and I were reading a book about space. One of my students raised their hand and asked me, “Miss Roberts, do you really mean to tell me that we’re just floating around in outer space?!” It gave me so much joy how stunned and intrigued my student was in that moment!
What would you do with the $25,000?I would put it aside for my daughter’s education as well as contribute a portion to the Bridge program at USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital to assist families in need.
