Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to be the voice for my students when they cannot put together the words to say they need help. If it was not for my teachers, I would not be here in this world! My teachers were my voice when I did not know how to say I needed help! They were my comfort, my salvation, my hope. They made me feel like I was worth something. I believe all my kids are worth something and have the ability to achieve great things! I want to show them that anything is possible in life.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

When one of my students knocked on door at my home... she was going to kill herself, but I answered the door... She is alive with three kids and is a registered nurse now!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use it to help fund my classroom for the next few years! I will buy the kids food, supplies, and anything they need. I teach ESOL kids, so some great translators for the classroom would be awesome. I would like an earpiece translator, too. I’d like to have a celebration, too, and take my team out for an amazing meal!
