Teaching gives me the opportunity to lead students by example, and support them in a developing time in their lives when they need it most.

As a 4th generation teacher, I feel that this was always the pathway for me. I was raised by a reading teacher who instilled a love of literature in me. Teaching English is something I am passionate about, but being able to mentor the next generation is the best part.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceDuring my first year of teaching, I had some challenging classes. It took me awhile to come to a place of understanding with the students. One student came to express to me the love she had for my class. The student then told me how my teaching style reminded her of her favorite teacher from elementary who just so happens to be my mother. This was such an awesome, full circle moment. It was especially touching during that time as my mother was taking the year off due to her battle with cancer.
What would you do with the $25,000?This summer, I am getting married and setting my roots in the community that my school is in. This money would be so helpful as a teacher paycheck is less than ideal. Additionally, there are so many resources I would love to have for my classroom, but can't be covered by state grants, and are too expensive to pay for out of pocket. With so many students struggling with attention disorders, I would love to implement more flexible seating and options for all my students when it comes to learning.
