It is difficult to explain "why" I became a teacher as it truly is my calling. From helping my mother with her daycare when I was younger, I've always been drawn and connected to guiding paths for youth. I'm not only a teacher but also a mentor, a coach and a trusted adult. I don't limit my advice and knowledge to just my subject areas of Art and Business. I share past experiences in life to help shape my students into being good people and model citizens through positive relationships.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceThis is my 21st year teaching and I have had an embarrassment of riches of memorable teaching moments. However, the #1 teaching experience I had was last year on April 24, 2024. Using my own sobriety as inspiration, I came up with an idea called "FOUR 24's" as I challenged my kids to go 24 hours, 24 days, 24 weeks and all of 2024 vape and polysubstance free. Punishment free, over 380 vapes were willingly turned in to me as I helped forge a new path of sobriety during my school wide presentation.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would use the $25,000 to continue my passion of helping youth regarding the dangers of vaping and polysubstance use. I would use it to expand "FOUR 24's" nationwide, encouraging all schools to adopt the education, support and love regarding underage substance misuse 24 hours, 24 days, 24 weeks at a time until they can go 24/7. For 4/24 every year to be a National Day of Sobriety. I would also set up a "FOUR 24's" scholarship to help youth find meaning from helping others, find theirs.
