Tell us why you became a teacher

Teaching is a calling that allows me to positively impact students who will one day shape the world. As a college senior, I volunteered at a local high school, where I was asked to serve as a Substitute Teacher, further mentoring students in academics and athletics. This experience gave my life purpose. Now a certified, highly qualified teacher, I strive to make every interaction with students meaningful, remembering my principal’s reminder: “We may be the best adult this child sees today.”

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

As a teacher I am always overjoyed to see my students succeed in school and in subsequent life. Just knowing I played a part in that success is always memorable and very meaningful. Throughout my time as an educator, I have also had the great fortune of be a coach. Seeing my students overcome obstacles to achieve great things on and off the field is truly amazing.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Winning $25,000 would be life-changing. I’d donate $5,000 to the track and cheer programs at Jim Hill High School, where I taught and coached for over five years. These programs promote physical fitness and a winning culture that helps to combat obesity. The remaining $20,000 would go toward paying off my student loans, helping me to continue my journey toward a healthier future and furthering my commitment to education and community.
