Tell us why you became a teacher

I chose to be a teacher because I want to make a difference! For me, having the privilege of contributing to the education of children is not so much what I do, but who I am. There is nothing more rewarding than watching my art come to life, and seeing my students perform with pride and passion. I have always wanted to use my love of music and helping others to create an environment where ALL students feel safe, have a sense of belonging, a pathway to success, and an opportunity to shine!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I remember when our brand-new band uniforms came in and the students got to wear them at the first home football game. As I walked through the group to check that each musician had all the details correct on their uniform, I had a student with special needs stop me and tell me that "wearing his band uniform made him feel brave and strong, like a superhero!" That small, special moment helped me understand that we are much stronger and more powerful when we work and create together.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If lucky enough to win the honor of America's Favorite Teacher, I would use the funds to help purchase new instruments, music, and equipment for the Wagoner Bulldog Band and Color Guard program.
