From a young age, I knew I wanted to work with kids. Initially, I pursued child psychology, but the emotional weight led me to teaching instead. Inspired by my own teachers, I discovered a passion for shaping young minds and helping students realize their potential. Teaching allows me to mentor, support, and empower children, fostering a love of learning that lasts a lifetime. Every day, I embrace the privilege of guiding future leaders, knowing that education has the power to change lives.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

A former fourth grade student of mine struggled with math, believing it wasn’t for her. Through real-world applications and encouragement, she began to see math as a tool for solving meaningful problems. Her confidence grew and she became a strong math student. At high school graduation, she shared that I helped her develop a love of math. Years later, she became an environmental scientist, using math every day in her work. Her journey reminds me that teaching math is about more than numbers.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would invest in professional development for fellow teachers, enhancing our ability to inspire and engage students. I would bring the Odyssey of the Mind competition to our school, fostering creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Additionally, I would start a Girls on the Run chapter, empowering young girls with confidence, leadership, and healthy habits. This funding would create lasting opportunities, enriching both students and educators in meaningful ways.
