I became a teacher 29 years ago because it allows me to influence and guide students, shaping their futures. Being part of the community and working with diverse backgrounds enriches my experience. Teaching keeps me intellectually stimulated and provides a good work-life balance. Each day is unique, filled with new challenges and discoveries, keeping the job engaging. The school environment helps me maintain a youthful outlook. There's immense fulfillment in witnessing students’ achievements.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceOne of my most memorable teaching experiences was with a third grader who was selectively mute. Initially, he struggled to communicate, but over time, he built enough trust to start whispering to me. This breakthrough led him to read for the first time, which he hadn't done since kindergarten. I also had the opportunity to take him into the community, helping him experience life outside of his anxieties. Witnessing his growth and newfound confidence was incredibly rewarding.
What would you do with the $25,000?If I had $25,000, I would invest in experiences that could enrich my life and the lives of others. I’d also consider setting up a scholarship fund for students who need support for college or a trade school,helping them achieve their dreams. Finally, I’d use some of the funds to create engaging learning resources and experiences for my students.
