I love teaching because theatre helps create compassionate, creative humans who will enrich the future and make the world better.

During the pandemic, I discovered a calling I never imagined: teaching. In a time of uncertainty, I brought the arts—especially theatre—as a beacon of hope to my students at Hialeah Gardens High School. Teaching allows me to empower young minds, spark creativity, and build a sense of community. I became a teacher to help students find their voice and show the world the transformative power of theatre.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceDuring the pandemic, performances weren’t allowed, but I didn’t want my students to lose their spark. I directed a virtual holiday showcase to give them a safe way to stay creative and motivated. In a time when so many felt disconnected, this project brought students together, inspired them to work hard, and reminded us all of the power of the arts. Teachers shared it with families, spreading joy during a difficult time. It was a moment that showed how theatre unites and uplifts us all.
What would you do with the $25,000?As a first-generation American, owning a home has always been a life-changing dream—a symbol of stability for my family. Winning this prize would bring me closer to that milestone and show my students that perseverance can turn dreams into reality. A home would not only provide security for me but also inspire future generations to strive for their own goals. It’s a chance to build the foundation for a brighter future, both personally and as a teacher.
