Juan

I don’t love teaching in Miami FL, it’s awe-full; yet I do my best for my hometown. I don’t care to make money because I make difference.

Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because it was the easy thing to do for my mental health at the time and I felt education had already hit rock bottom ten years ago with Betsy DeVos. Obviously I was wrong.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Kindly, a most memorable teaching experience for me was flying to Salt Lake City for AP Exam work which I never thought would be possible since I just teach high school. Brutally, my school and student enrollment for my courses was left in shambles upon my return and I had to recruit AP students all summer. This is the nature of teaching in America’s constant flux.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Donate it to Miami-Dade County Public Schools so they can buy decent eco-friendly water bottles for all students and yearly planners and agendas for each of them to take home, like they did for us in the 90s— rather than use their fat budgets and wallets to buy more unnecessary safety measures in the name of mental health.
