Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because of my high school math teacher. He was my idol, especially so while I was going through chemotherapy my freshman year. He showed me how important teachers are, and I wanted to be just like him, so I went to school, got a math and education degree, and have loved teaching every day since.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was during my first year of teaching. I had the opportunity to work with some very troubled students who were never excited to come to school. In the semester I had with them, right before COVID, I was able to achieve 100% daily attendance, and these students were excited to come to school and even more so to go to math class. In that short time, it made me truly believe that I could make a positive impact on every student’s life that walks into my room.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With the $25,000, I would give back to the schools who have helped me grow into the teacher I have become. Without the numerous teachers who have supported me, answered my questions, and observed my teaching to help me hone my style, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Donating to these schools would only be a small representation of how much I truly appreciate their support.
