I love getting to create projects that inspire innovation and learning from mistakes while showing kids how they matter and have value.

I feel like I fell into teaching, but that's not quite the truth. In 4th grade, I started assisting in a kindergarten class and loved helping kids make new connections. In 8th grade, I spent my free period with 6th-grade reading groups, guided by my favorite teacher, Colette. Seeing students grow and gain confidence showed me the joy of inspiring curiosity and supporting learning—moments that shaped my path to becoming a teacher.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceSome of my most meaningful moments happen after graduation. Parents share that class discussions sparked important health conversations at home. Former students recall how check-ins during tough times made a difference. Others say Engineering and Design opened doors to STEM interests, college, or apprenticeships. Seeing their growth and excitement reaffirms why I teach—to support and encourage them as they find their path.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would use it to fund larger-scale STEM projects, like expanding our alternative energy unit. Students currently build small models to learn about energy production, but with more resources, they could create life-sized prototypes, collaborate with local experts, and visit energy facilities for real-world applications. This funding could transform learning from theoretical to hands-on, fostering deeper engagement and understanding of sustainable energy solutions.
