Teaching is a calling that found me at a young age. As a first-generation college graduate, I know firsthand the power of having someone believe in you when the odds feel stacked against you. Growing up, teachers and coaches pushed me to see potential in myself I didn’t know existed. As a teen mentoring and coaching younger students, I discovered the joy of doing the same for others. Now, I’ve poured that passion into thousands of kids, knowing one voice of encouragement can change a life.

Teaching is about connection. I’ve taught everything from physics to physiology, but no lesson compares to knowing you’ve changed lives. My most unforgettable moment was with the Class of 2020. After my heart surgery due to a genetic disorder, they sent messages and videos sharing how much my teaching meant to them. Even more humbling, some were inspired to become teachers themselves. There’s no greater joy than seeing former students spark connections with the next generation.

With this award, I would go on a journey to explore the planet’s natural wonders, like Glacier National Park’s trails and other beautiful places on this planet. These experiences would rejuvenate my soul and broaden my perspective. I’d share this adventure with my family, making lasting memories. I’d also dedicate a portion of the funds to support local youth athletics for underprivileged kids and also to support a student-led club for giving back to the community.
