Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher inspired by my Uncle David, who taught in Camden for 25 years. At 13, I visited his school and knew I wanted to teach where I could make a profound impact both in the classroom and the community. Growing up, I marched to the beat of my own drum and didn’t always fit in, but my teachers made me feel confident and proud of who I was. They acknowledged and celebrated my strengths, and I strive to do the same for my students every day.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was helping a student who struggled with decoding and reading A-level texts. The moment they read a book independently was transformative—not only an "aha" moment for them but also a boost in their confidence and self-image. Witnessing their realization that they were capable of reading on their own was profound. Moments like these fuel my passion for teaching, as I strive to help students unlock their potential and believe in themselves.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would create a scholarship fund to help my former students cover the cost of college applications—an expense many families don't anticipate. My goal is to invest in their futures and support their growth into independent, knowledgeable changemakers. Additionally, the funds could provide tutoring for struggling students in the community, ensuring they receive the academic support needed to thrive. This initiative would empower students to overcome barriers and reach their goals
