Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I have a deep love for helping students learn and thrive. I remember struggling in school myself and feeling lost and unsupported. I want to be the teacher I needed, someone who can connect with students who are struggling and help them find their own love of learning. I believe every student has the potential to succeed, and I'm passionate about creating a supportive and inclusive classroom where they can reach their full potential!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was watching my 9th grade students perform their own, modern versions of "Romeo & Juliet." They not only made the scripts, but they also had props, costumes, made their own sets, memorized their lines, and performed in front of a small audience! Seeing the work they put into their own production not only allowed them to truly understand and appreciate the lesson, but gave them the opportunity to collaborate, create, and grow as young people!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use the $25,000 to help support my family. I'm the breadwinner in my household as my husband took a pay-cut to stay home and be with our 18 month old (he was a teacher, too). Being able to support them while doing what I love as a career would be an amazing blessing!
