Felicia Morris

Teaching high school math for 17 years has been a deeply rewarding journey because I love empowering students to overcome challenges.

Tell us why you became a teacher

As a young child, I was very, very active in class and got into trouble often. There were a lot of teachers that had given up on me due to my behavior. Then came along Mrs. Parish, my third grade and fifth grade teacher who called out the greatness that she saw in me and who also sparked my love for math. From that moment, I knew that I wanted to make as dynamic of an impact on students’ lives as she made on mine.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experiences have been “Friday Night Live.” These are parties that I throw on certain Fridays where we eat pizza, listen to music, and practice Calculus problems. The students have a wonderful time and the results are very positive when they take the AP exam in May. These are moments that remind myself and the students how fun math can be!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use a portion to invest in growing my math tutoring business. I would put the rest in an investment account for my children’s education.
