Tell us why you became a teacher

Growing up there were many others around me who were less fortunate, who I have seen struggle and come from nothing, and family members who have strayed off the wrong path, all because of the little resources their schools had to offer. I knew that I could make a change in people’s lives and through teaching, I can and do just that. I teach to let others know there is a safe place to learn, regardless of how that looks or sounds and so that I can make a positive impact in someone’s life.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching moments was when one of my special education students who was in a wheel chair could not access the PE lesson like her peers. She was having a very difficult time and even felt discouraged seeing her peers complete the activity. So, I accommodated some things and created the lesson so that she can access it, regardless of her disability. When the lesson was complete, my student thanked me and stated how I made her feel seen and she felt complete playing with her peers.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Being that I am a special education teacher, with the 25,000 dollars I would use that money to buy resources, tools, extra supports, and material that my special education students would need. Whether that be resources for curriculum and academies, or whether that may be resources and tools to help with their disabilities and the things that may under their learning. With the 25,000 dollars I would spend it on items and tools that will help my students grow and become successful.
