Because Ann Johnson, my art teacher loved me. She taught me to give back some love, compassion, creativity, and lots of weird. As an art teacher, I see all students, we build DEEP connections. We/older students too watch the littles grow into pre-teens and support one an other! Best part of my day, BIG SMILES, being silly, actual BEST part is every morning the “babies” that come to me for morning check in and ask for “a kiss” (it’s a heart sticker), and a hug. Best start of our day! All of us!
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceOh boy, there’s many. Today, Grady sang me a song before going to class. Maddie became Velcro at recess. Virginia spoke with confidence. Remi worked independently. Third grade actually cleaned up. There’s many more personal moments, yet outing students and their families is icky. Every day is wild and beautiful. Today was my most memorably magical day. Tomorrow will be better, for someone, I’ll keep you posted.
What would you do with the $25,000?The gift would began an art program of my DREAMS for our immigrant families and ignored community members. Our community in Denver whose voices are dampened and oppressed deserve richness and safe ways to sharE. I KNOW that ART saved my life, through SEL, community programing and joy we can heal, beautifully, together! I just need some $ and support. We can do this! Pinky swear, I’ll do this!
