I became a teacher because of my deep passion for the arts and belief in every child’s potential. The arts offer a unique way for students to explore, express, and discover their strengths, and I wanted to guide them through that journey. I believe in building meaningful relationships with my students, as trust and connection are key to fostering growth. Above all, I want every child to feel they belong, as a supportive environment is essential for them to thrive academically and emotionally.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

It's hard to pinpoint just one memorable teaching experience, as there have been so many that I’ve even thought about writing a memoir one day. However, the most meaningful moments come from the lifelong relationships I've built with my students. From babysitting their children to throwing baby showers, these connections are what I cherish the most. Seeing former students grow into parents and knowing I played a part in their lives is a reward that goes far beyond the classroom.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won $25,000, I would invest it in projects that benefit both my students and the community. First, I'd fund more community-based murals, bringing art to public spaces and fostering local pride. I’d also use part of the money to buy better supplies for my classroom, ensuring students have the best resources to express their creativity. Lastly, I’d love to take my students abroad to experience art firsthand, giving them the opportunity to immerse themselves in culture.
