Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I was inspired by great teachers I had all throughout my school experience. I love helping kids see real world concepts in action connecting what they learn in academics to their daily life. Teaching Agriculture allows me a special opportunity with my students to bond & get to know them. We talk about future plans and I do my best to inspire them to dream big. They learn the importance of setting goals and making plans so that their goals are attainable.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experiences have happened in the past two years. My middle school Agriculture students are a joy to teach! I get the honor of teaching them life skills like how to write a thank you note, how to tie a tie, and how to choose the best meats and produce at the grocery store. I also get to teach them how to grow their own food in our raised garden beds at school. Our classroom pets light up students eyes with excitement ready to learn how to care for an animal.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would finish paying off my student loans from my undergraduate degree & put the rest towards my Masters degree. I am currently a graduate student at Auburn University studying Agriscience Education. I had to take out student loans to get my degrees because I couldn’t afford them otherwise. I knew I wanted to teach Agriculture so I had to get my degree. Paying off my student loans would mean my family would be able to enjoy things like vacations instead of having to stay home.
